Snyder & Co. welcomes Elizabeth Weinberg to our family and we couldn't be happier! I first discovered Elizabeth through an interview she did for my good friend, Rachel Hulin's blog. I was instantly drawn to her way of capturing a certain emotion and energy in her photography.
Elizabeth has a very young and fresh feel in her work. I asked Elizabeth some questions recently to try to figure out how she creates such beautiful images:
What motivates you to photograph a specific moment?
I don't really think about it; I generally have a camera on me at all times and I'll shoot whatever interests me. I prefer not to overanalyze my motives.
How was the switch over from film to digital? Do you miss film?
I don't really consider it a switch. I still shoot both. For work, however, it's mostly digital. I've figured out how to make my digital work look so much like film that people often have trouble distinguishing, and that's fine by me.I hear you are a crafty person. What other art do you enjoy creating?
I enjoy knitting, screenprinting, drawing... I've just learned how to use a sewing machine so I'm working on making stuff with that too.
Can you tell us a little about your creative process?
I am very spontaneous. I don't like to plan too much in advance for anything. In the end, all that matters is the picture, not how much time was spent wondering how things were going to come out. I work mostly with natural light in outdoor environments, which allows for lots of variation and freedom. Sometimes a subject and I will just walk around the city until we find something that looks right.
What are you looking forward to in 2010?I'm looking forward to working with new magazines and for new clients, and working on rad projects with my existing ones. And more travel! I traveled a lot in 2009 and I'd like to keep that up for 2010. I'm also excited to work on personal projects.
Thanks Elizabeth. We are ready to help you have a great 2010!
Interesting interview. I just started a blog (kwakukufuor.blogspot.com) and one of my entries was about analog and digital techniques. I still find it interesting that it's still an issue when photographers should focus more on creating unique work, regardless. I really like your lighting.
