I will be reviewing portfolios at New York City Fotoworks on October 28 and 29. Behind this creative work shop is Marc Asnin, award winning photo journalist.
I was impressed by the line up of reviewers for this event and that is why I wanted to be part of it. Although I like reviewing portfolios I have very little time to do it while running this agency. It is a great way to connect with people and to see new work.
I encourage anybody with serious intention of meeting people in the business and the willingness to learn to attend this event, where photographers will be paired up with art buyers, photo editors, agent and gallerists. I think it is actually a one of the better ways to promote yourself available at the moment.
Based on my previous experience with reviewing portfolios, both here and in Sweden, I can say that you will get the most out of your experience if you:
1. are a working photographer or at least have done some commercial work, meaning that you have knowledge of the industry already and you know how it works somewhat
2. you have a body of work to show that show your point of view and interests in a clear and consistent way
3. come with an open mind, willing to listen and learn and be mature about taking criticism.
Click on this link to see a presentation of some of the reviewers, among them Chris Dougherty, Director of Photography at People Magazine, Frank Meo, artists rep, and Marianne Butler, freelance Photo Editor.
I just clicked over from another site and figured I should take a look around. Like what I see so now I'm following you. Look forward to checking out your some of your posts again.
